BOONEVILLE, Ark. — On January 5, 2011, the Petit Jean Regional Foundation Board unanimously agreed to accept the donation of Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation property located here. The property includes 19 acres of land, improvements including a refrigeration plant and miscellaneous items located on the site. The donation agreement was also finalized on January 5 through a mutual understanding between Cargill and the Petit Jean Regional Foundation. The property will be utilized for job creation activities in the Booneville community.
A major fire at the facility on March 23, 2008, resulted in Cargill shutting down meat processing here. Donation of the property to the Booneville community through Petit Jean Regional Foundation will provide the potential opportunity to identify possible lessees that could use the facility and create local jobs.
The donation of this property by Cargill has been a lengthy and thoughtful process involving numerous local citizens, the chamber of commerce and city of Booneville. Petit Jean is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit, charity. Working with Cargill, local government and the private sector parties have been able to finalize an arrangement that is mutually beneficial. Transfer of title for the property is expected to take place later this month.
