Lifelong learning is a central part of the mission of the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. We hold workshops, lectures, and classes for people of all ages throughout the year.
The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks serves Northwest Arkansas school children with programs in the schools and at the Garden. Classes and programs explore a broad array of garden-related topics, including wild plants, animals in the garden, health and wellness, sustainability, and garden and floral design.
Our children’s programs are extensive. In 2013 over 19,000 children visited the Garden for school field trips, science education, camps, and special events.
One of our most popular programs is Little Sprouts, a weekly summer program beginning in May for all children up to five years old.
Little Sprouts is a weekly botanically-themed program for preschoolers. Each week we read stories, sing songs, and do fun crafts and activities. Whether we are learning about how bees are more helpful than harmful, or exploring the garden with handmade binoculars, the children leave the garden with a real appreciation for the world around them and a new desire to protect it.
We have two sessions to accommodate all of our little learners. We meet at 9:30 and 10:15 am on Wednesday mornings May through October. Participants do NOT need to register. Just show up on Wednesday morning! Watch our Facebook page for weather announcements on rainy days.
Our participants range in age from newborn all the way up to our five-year-olds who haven’t yet started Kindergarten. Not only does our program serve the little ones in attendance, but also the adults who bring them. Each week we try to offer a program to our families that will leave them with the inspiration to take what they have learned and apply it in their homes.
This program is free for the children. Adults accompanying the children are free if they are members or pay regular Garden admission if they are not. You can join online at Become a Member.
