See breathtaking works of art by world-renowned artist Dale Chihuly at New York Botanical Garden. Dale Chihuly is an American glass sculptor whose works are considered unique in the field of blown glass, “moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture.” This exhibition showcases approximately 20 installations and includes drawings and early works that reveal the evolution and development of Chihuly’s artistic process during his celebrated career. We will be on our own to view the sculptures, visit the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, take a tram ride, and visit the Garden’s wonderful gift shop. The Garden has one year-round café, The Pine Tree Café located in the Visitor Center, or you may wish to bring your lunch which can be eaten only in the designated picnic areas.
At 1:00 p.m., we will board the bus and head to Untermyer Gardens in Yonkers, New York, for a 90-minute guided tour. This garden is like no other. Established in the early 1900’s, it had been left for years as a mystical grand ruin. It is haunting to see this stunning Indo-Persian styled architecture in these times with its strong fortress walled garden and towers in each corner, its cross-cross axis of canals and paths, and a round open top Greek-style temple looking out onto a dramatic view of the Hudson River and the Palisades. Please wear sturdy shoes for this tour.
