10 Days Left to Enjoy River of Lights
Event featured as one of best U.S. holiday light displays by MSN
ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Visitors have until Dec. 30 to experience the ABQ BioPark's River of Lights, which recently received national accolades.
New Mexico's most expansive walk-through light show was named one of "The 15 Most Spectacular Holiday Light Displays in the U.S." by MSN in November. This is the event's 20th year.
The show runs nightly at the Botanic Garden from 6-9:30 p.m. until Dec. 30, excluding Dec. 24 and 25.
"Our garden staff members work hard year round to prepare for the River of Lights and it's such an honor for the event to be recognized nationally," said Danielle Flores Mills, marketing and events coordinator for the New Mexico BioPark Society. "With the holidays approaching, this is the perfect time to bring the family down to see hundreds of dazzling themed displays."
Single tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children (3-12 years). Children under 3 are free.
A free park and ride will be available on Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 26-30. Services start at the Zoo at 6 p.m. and the final bus departs to the Botanic Garden at 9:15. More information can be found at www.riveroflights.org.
For those intending to drive, the construction schedule for the Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) project will continue to allow for visitors and locals to easily attend River of Lights. Two lanes will be open in each direction on Central Avenue. Right turns from Rio Grande Boulevard southbound to Central Avenue will be open and a left turn will be available at New York Avenue from eastbound Central Avenue throughout the duration of the event.
The Botanic Garden will also feature other nighttime festivities to get visitors in the holiday mood. Special holiday G-scale model trains will be on display until 8:30 p.m. nightly on Dec. 21-Dec. 23 and Dec. 27-30. Families can also make holiday nature crafts from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the Botanic Garden Education Building. All materials are provided for this free event. Visitors can pose for free selfies with Santa from 7-9 p.m. nightly through Dec. 23.
